René Dinesen arrived to his post as Ambassador of Denmark to the United Kingdom on 1st September 2022. Prior to this, he was Ambassador to Austria and the Permanent Representative to the OSCE and UN in Vienna.

Having served as Ambassador to South Africa and to Afghanistan, and Deputy Permanent Representative at the Danish UN Mission in New York and as Deputy in Romania. He has also held several senior positions in capital within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, latest as Under-Secretary of State from 2016 to 2018 and before that Director for Strategy and Policy Planning.

He has extensive experience with international relations, working with bilateral relations and several international organisations including EU, NATO, United Nations, OSCE, WTO, and OECD.

While on leave from the Danish Foreign Service from 2015 to 2016, he was the first CEO of a new international philanthropic foundation working on issues such as climate change and sustainable economy.

Ambassador Dinesen has given lectures at numerous American universities and is an external examiner at Danish universities. He holds a BA and an MA in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Copenhagen. The Ambassador is bestowed Knight of the Danish Order of Dannebrog and Knight 1st Degree of the Romanian National Order “Serviciul Credincios”.
