After a couple of years working on offshore exploration oil rigs, Dan worked for KP and McVities in sales and trade marketing functions during which he qualified as a member of the Chartered Institute for Marketing. This was followed by a spell at William Reed Business Media (The Grocer etc.) for the first half of his career and he then started Cognosco Marketing with Andrew Coulson.
 
Cognosco has helped food and drink businesses plan, communicate and sell to the trade since 2005 so this means they have come across many different businesses. Having worked with brands like Moving Mountains® and Glebe Farm Foods, an everyday task is working out how to fit available resources to the best market opportunities for plant based products and then actually doing the selling.
 
By building a database of contacts over the last 19 years, Cognosco has comprehensive resources and a wide sales reach. As well as selling to national accounts across foodservice and retail, Cognosco also carry out trade research and planning for all sizes of company on a consultancy basis.
